Sir Jules Thorn Court is a registered care home providing nursing and social care for older people who have dementia and Alzheimer’s. The home has 30 individual bedrooms with full access for people with physical disabilities.

Facilities
- Welcoming and supportive -
Sir Jules Thorn Court is part of a modern complex including the assisted living schemes of Mary Court and Joan Bartlett House and a separate building which is run by the Family Welfare Association.

The home is arranged on two floors, the ground floor has 22 beds and the lower ground floor has eight beds.

We have an enclosed and secure garden with various shrubs and flowers. The garden is well used by residents and their relatives.

Each resident has their own bed sitting room with en suite washing and toilet facilities. The rooms are fully furnished and residents are encouraged to make their room as personal and comfortable as possible with their own belongings.

The home is divided into four units. Each unit is made up of seven to eight bedrooms with a kitchenette and a day room overlooking Battersea Park. There is a large dining room where most of the residents have their meals.

Residents have the choice to remain with their own GPs. However, we also have the service of a local GP who provides medical care to all the residents. The GP visits once a week and as required. Where necessary, the GP will make referrals to a psychiatrist. A chiropodist, dentist and optician also visit the home.

Our services
- Care and commitment -
Sir Jules Thorn Court is designed to meet the needs of people who require a high level of nursing care. It provides care on behalf of Wandsworth Social Services in close liaison with Wandsworth Primary Care Trust.

The staff support team includes at least one registered nurse, providing 24 hour care. We are proactive in providing help with anything ranging from washing, dressing, arranging activities and booking appointments.

Each resident is encouraged to develop a good relationship with their key worker, who will ensure they receive appropriate care and attention.

Food is an important part of life to our residents. We take great care to find out what each resident likes. Our on site catering team provide three meals and snacks a day, with a range of dishes which are quality checked and changed according to tastes. All meals and snacks are prepared by the cooks. Special diets are available.

All residents can wear their own clothing and use our laundry service. A hairdresser visits the home once a week.

Employees bring energy and enthusiasm to the care of our residents, creating a lively and warm atmosphere. Care workers develop their skills and knowledge through ongoing training and through achieving NVQ level 2/3 in care. Our senior employees are first level registered nurses.

We also provide comprehensive mandatory training for our staff such as moving and handling, food hygiene, first aid, health and safety, and Protection of Vulnerable Adults.

Activities
- Things to do, places to go -
We have a dedicated activity co-ordinator who arranges individual activity programmes based on residents’ needs and choices. Families are encouraged to take an active part in planning activities for their loved ones based on their interests and hobbies.
