About us
Outreach service provides support to Deaf clients. Clients are supported to learn life skills and to live independently in the local community. Some clients need extra support from outreach workers to cope with daily living. The clients can be supported to improve their social network, engage in recreational activities. We provide an activity service which can be utilised by clients using our outreach service. This support means deaf people can live more fulfilled lives.
What service do we offer?
Our outreach service specialises in providing support to Deaf clients who have mental health needs, and/or other complex needs, and require support to live in the community.
The service is seen as a preventative service, being able to identify areas of concern prior to reaching a crisis point and we will then support the client to access other services or, where appropriate, with the client’s consent liaise with other professionals.
All support can be arranged to meet the needs of the client and their circumstances.
Outreach workers can support clients by:
- Encouraging involvement in the Deaf community
- Developing social skills
- Escorting to college, work placements or medical appointments
- Providing some training in daily living tasks e.g. shopping, budgeting, paying bills, housekeeping, and personal hygiene
- Monitoring compliance with medication
- Supporting with medical appointments
- Supporting with paying bills
- Visiting local clubs
- Supporting at workshops / day trip
Employee training and qualifications
Our outreach workers are either deaf and have native BSL users or hearing with BSL level 2 or above. All employees have experience of working with deaf clients who have learning disabilities, mental health support needs or autistic spectrum disorders.
Outreach workers follow Viridian policies and procedures including, but not limited to Confidentiality, Personal Safety, Violence and Lone Working and health, Safety and Welfare Policy, Support Planning & Risk Assessments.
